When You Have to Wait by Melanie Conklin

5.0

Age: Preschool
SEL: Patience
Family: Traveling working mom

A little girl expresses relatable frustration as she waits in line at the pool or waits for her feet to touch the pedals of the shiny new bike in the store window. She also must wait for her mama to return from a far away trip.

The soft watercolors add a gentleness to such a big, hard emotion for a preschooler. The author also doesn't shy away from the difficulty of being away from a parent, as the child dwells on her hugless days and nights.
