“Wherever I go, I will speak of you with love.” What a perfect quote to sum up my feelings about this book. The Thief of Always is the first novel I’ve read by Clive Barker and I can say, without a doubt, it will NOT be the last.
•
The only thing that would have made this story better is if I could have read it for the first time when I was 9 or 10. It’s the perfect mix of creepy and fun that I loved as a kid, and would make a perfect introduction to the horror genre. But don’t think this is just a kid’s book. The writing is so well done, and the lesson so timeless, that it’s a perfect read for any age.
•
I happened to pick up the illustrated edition, with drawings from Barker himself, and I’m so glad I did. They were such a great touch, and really helped bring the characters and settings to life.
•
Beautifully written with descriptive details, lovable characters, a great plot, and an unforgettable lesson, The Thief of Always spirits you along on a fun adventure and then turns around and leaves you breathless and, dare I say, wiping away tears with the last paragraph.
