Becoming by Michelle Obama
5.0
I really enjoyed this look into Michelle Obama's life, her thoughts on Barack running for the presidency, and life in the White House.
I will say I found myself wanting a bit more of a look into her young life (pre-Barack), as she would mention times when she was told that she couldn't do something (apply to Harvard, for example), but then decided to prove naysayers wrong. Where did she find that strength? Was it just one person saying "no" that spurred her on? Though she did insinuate that she pulled on her upbringing to focus herself, I really felt that she could have told more of these struggles. It was almost as though she was rushing through her life to get to the White House years (which was pretty much the 2nd half of the book) in that sense.
I really enjoyed the small anecdotes from meeting the Queen, as well as observations on how *they* chose to run their White House (ex: paying for their furnishings and redecoration themselves instead of relying on the government stipend provided for that purpose in order to not make waves with the constituency), and how she decided on her policy and community service campaigns).
