This was a slow read or me. I think there’s too much rising exposition that slows it down. But once the action revs up, I did find that I wanted to keep reading. The premise is not novel, forbidden magic and those who would usurp their autonomy and those who would vilify and persecute. However, there some definite parallels to the struggle in the real world over bodily autonomy, equality, and empowerment.
