At first glance, While Justice Sleeps opens with a verbosity that might feel daunting—its epilogue and initial chapters are dense, rich with legal and political intricacies that could challenge a reader’s patience. However, powering through these early sections leads to a masterfully woven thriller that rewards perseverance.

At its core, this novel is an electrifying game of cat and mouse, where protagonist Avery Keene finds herself entangled in a high-stakes battle against formidable shadow government forces. Stacey Abrams crafts a narrative filled with deception, power plays, and a relentless pursuit of the truth. The tension is palpable, and as the plot unfolds, the pace accelerates into a gripping, cerebral thriller.

One of the novel’s standout elements is the insidious, carefully constructed relationship between Avery and Jared Wynn. Their dynamic adds an additional layer of intrigue, making each of their interactions feel loaded with subtext and strategic maneuvering.

Abrams’ writing style is sharp and intelligent, seamlessly blending legal and political drama with pulse-pounding suspense. Her ability to build tension and weave complex narratives is impressive, making this a rewarding read for those who enjoy thought-provoking thrillers. I’m definitely a fan and will be treating myself by reading the entirety of her catalogue to include those written under the pen name of Selena Montgomery.
