Fellow Canadians, what are your answers to these questions:
What do you know about the Indian Act?
What do you know about how the Indian Act affects Indigenous Peoples in Canada today?
What do you know about why the Indian Act should be repealed?
Have you read the 94 Calls to Action from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission report?
If you are struggling to answer these questions, I would strongly suggest reading this book. It is a clear explanation of the answers to the questions above. It is our responsibility as settlers on Indigenous lands to learn about the history of how Indigenous Peoples have been treated in Canada (I sure didn’t learn this in school), and how we can move forward with reconciliation.
