This was such a good book. I bought myself an E-Reader as a gift, and I'm glad to have broken it in reading The Martian.
I loved that Mark's science wasn't perfect- some of the troubles he faced were equally due to his own mental/mathmatical slips as they were due to chance (man vs self, nature, and technology were played out perfectly). That imperfection made him a really likeable character, and it really drives the plot forward. Things were tense, edge of your seat style, but I never felt like the chaos was being overplayed.
I appreciate that the cast are all realistic and human- everyone has their role, and they manage to fulfil it without becoming stereotypical caricatures.
I definitely felt my brain start to space out when it came to some of the equations and technical science, but this was still a really great, enjoyable read. I can see now why it's such a popular and well-loved book :3
