The Inconvenient Indian: A Curious Account of Native People in North America by Thomas King

challenging funny informative reflective fast-paced

5.0

In The Inconvenient Indian, King does well to cover both the American and Canadian sides of Indigenous history in a fairly factual, but still darkly humourous, delivery of the atrocities and unfair decisions made by non-Aboriginals. Kept high-level given the length of time and broad geographic area covered compared to the length of the book, it is still genuinely insightful and highly informative. It is easy to think that "Native Americans" have had the same history across Turtle Island, and while broad strokes are similar, it was very useful to see the comparison of both countries and notable events of each explained.

Truly a must-read introduction to counteract the white-washed narrative of most history classes.
