For 500 pages:

Richard: WHERE'S KAHLAN???
Everyone Else: New Spell. Who Dis?

And there's a beasty so he can't use magic. That's it.

The low rating is due to seeing multiple people find out the same thing, the same way, that we already knew from page like ten: Kahlan has been erased. (Skip to Kahlan's chapter: 56 out of the 66.) Also Nicci's lowkey-in-love-with-Richard characterization in this book was disappointing for me since I loved her whole Death's Mistress role, but I am glad we got to see more of her.

Besides those things, the last 200 pages actually were worth my time. We're coming full circle to the series it feels like. I was just so bored with 2/3rds of the book, and if I hate reading something, automatic one star. Bonus star for the last bit I suppose. Hopefully Kahlan will be more prominent in the next book.
