Secret Santa by Andrew Shaffer
3.0
Secret Santa follows Lussi, a young woman who has been struggling to find a new job after her previous employer let her and many of her coworkers go. When she finally gets an interview at publishing company Blackwood-Patterson after a bizarre set of circumstances Lussi is determined to make it work. Even though her coworkers are putting her through some mean spirited pranks and in general treat her terribly. During their Secret Santa swap Lussi is gifted a demonic looking object that seems to be familiar to her. Suddenly, her coworkers are falling victim to horrific accidents. Can Lussi save them all?
This was a fun, fast, funny read. The 80s references were well placed into the text and the ins and outs of publishing were a lot of fun to read, kind of like the show Younger but make it horror.
One thing I would’ve changed were two characters name Fabien and Fredrick. A good rule of writing is to not have two characters with such similar names, especially in a novella, as it could lead to some confusion which did happen to me.
Overall, this was fun but not scary and it was just really silly, 2.5✨. Thank you everyone who joined me in reading Secret Santa this month for #ReadWithACoupleReads!
