I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I went into it only knowing that it was a retelling of Beauty and the Beast and found the characters, especially the FMC, to be quite complex. Loved that she had her own issues (substance abuse) and that it wasn't just mentioned as an afterthought but she battled it throughout the book. I also liked that her relationship with the MMC was complicated. Their love story was a slow burn until it wasn't; I felt like one chapter, she hated him and then, suddenly, she was in love with him, which is why it was a four star read instead of a five. I would've liked more time seeing their relationship (specifically their attraction to each other) grow instead of it feeling like it somewhat blossomed overnight.

Overall, I'd recommend it and I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
