Summary
Sofiya is married off to Matteo in order to seal a partnership between the Russian Bratva and the Italian Mafia. Ever since her disability became more prominent, requiring her to use mobility aids, her father has locked her away in the house. Sofiya hopes this marriage will give her more freedom and a family that will love and support her unconditionally. Matteo, on the other hand, doesn't want to be around Sofiya at all. He's closed off, refusing to let her or anyone else in. But with them living together and Sofiya causing his heart to feel strange things, can he continue to keep her out?
Thoughts
Emilia Rossi is one of my favorite authors (she also writes under Emilia Emerson). I love the way she includes disability rep and the way she writes romance. Her characters are always so swoonworthy and the character development is immaculate. From the jump I was rooting for Sofiya, hoping she got everything she wanted and checked off every point on her life list. Her insecurities, dreams, and struggles were all incredibly relatable. The people around Matteo immediately brought Sofiya into the fold, giving her a place to belong and start to grow out of her shell. Matteo himself was incredibly caring, attentive, and adoring. I really appreciated that even though he's a hardened Don, he had feelings for Sofiya from the beginning and he cares for his men. He's not cruel, he sticks to his morals, and he tries to be the best Don he can be. I felt like I was falling in love with him right along with Sofiya as he opened himself up and made it known she is his priority. I also loved the side characters and hope they show up in future books! Sienna, Mila, Romeo, Angelo, Dimitri, Leona, Ronan. I want books for all of them!!
A few of my favorite quotes *light spoilers:
- "What's wrong?" For once, I wished I knew how to speak...gently or some s*** like that.
- But I found I didn't care much that this made her vulnerable. Did it really matter when I was here to protect her?
- "You are my wife and I'm your husband. You're in pain, so I'm going to fix it."
- Arben was making me look like a fool. But what I was angriest about was that it had pulled me away from my wife. I wouldn't get to see her get up this morning, looking all messy and rumpled. And for that, the Albanians needed to d**.
- "I'll give you what you need. But one day, you'll know that the safest place for you to be is in my arms."
- "But that's not your problem," she said. When would she realize that everything that had to do with her was my problem? No, my honor to fix.
- "It's you and me, forever."
