This is a very reflective read - I spent a long time musing along with the story about communication and miscommunication, and wondering how people refer to each other and consider themselves.
The relationships between the main characters were what I expected but not what I wanted from the book; I think I had high hopes for something more queer and emotional. That said, the book was very melancholy, nostalgic, and moving in its own, highly realistic way. Each character is unique and incredibly well-formulated. Their world is ours and they exist in it.
I also appreciated the writing style and high levels of description, but it did lend to a slower pace. It was like reading a snippet of a long biography/diary of some people that didn’t exactly lead an interesting life but it’s intriguing to know how they lived and understood each other.
The ending was my favourite bit and completely encapsulated the whole feel of the book for me.
