I usually don’t leave written reviews, but I’ve been following R. A. Moreau for a while and was greatly anticipating the release of her debut novel.

I really enjoyed The Fall of Souls! This novel was a breath of fresh air with the story surrounding black characters rooted in Nubian/Ancient Egyptian mythology! I enjoyed Onia and Ra as characters (as well as their banter). Their romance was a little too fast-paced for my taste. It felt very Insta-lovey, and in the context of the story it will make sense, but I still wasn’t thrilled by how quickly they fell in love, though I enjoyed it regardless. There are compelling ideas in this book that I’m interested in seeing explored further in the next one, and although I have my complaints (as I typically have with any book I read), I enjoyed myself overall! I definitely think those in search of more black fantasy romance will have a great time reading this!
