Educated: A Memoir by Tara Westover
5.0
I’ve heard and seen different effects of religious trauma (I wrote my dissertation on purity culture!) but this memoir takes it to a whole new level.
Full of religious trauma, family trauma, abuse, gaslighting, and toxicity but also of hope, love, and new beginnings, this book was an adventure to read and I feel honored to be able to have a glimpse in Tara’s life. Though there is a focus on the education aspect, obviously, I believe the main themes were learning that love is thicker than blood, working through trauma, and learning how to trust others and most of all yourself again.
TWs: trauma, religion, violence, physical abuse, religious abuse, gaslighting, emotional and verbal abuse, car accidents, fire, injuries, death. Not a memoir for the faint of heart.
