Mostly enjoyable and quirky, just the climax took a trope I dislike and saw coming early on, namely
the thing where the livelihood of a group of people depends on a single precious object which after a huge buildup is destroyed. But somehow no one cares after all, which makes you wonder what was the point? Montgomery did it in A Tangled Web 94 years ago. I'd hoped Buxton would be more inventive.
