Better Off Read by Nora Page
2.0
Well, this is a mystery! Yes, the book is a mystery but so is the fact that the author does not seem to have a website. Instead I found this site and learned that she has written mysteries under three different names: Nora Page, Ann Claire and Ann Myers. Each 'author' takes credit for different mysteries: Nora - Bookmobile series, Ann Claire - Christie bookshop mysteries and Ann Myers - Santa Fe Cafe mysteries.
I did find the Penguin Random House site with a photo of Ann Claire and a brief bio stating she "earned degrees in geography, which took her across the world" and now lives in Colorado. That's a bit more information than what is noted on the inside back cover of the book, though the photos of Ann and Nora are of the same person.
I find it entertaining that trying to learn more about the author is like being a detective in one of her mysteries ;-) though I'm willing to stop looking after a certain point.
Now for the book mystery! By book's end I found the story more or less enjoyable and certainly worthy of reading before bed in that it wasn't scary or gruesome. The murderer was not apparent to me till the end, just a page before they were revealed. This story feels like an American version of a Miss Marple mystery - takes place in a cozy location populated with more or less interesting people, obvious 'good' and 'bad' characters, and an older woman as detective.
