Fairest by Marissa Meyer

When I commented on 'Cinder' I mentioned that I wanted to read more about Luna. This book let me do that. The inside look on Levana's life really helped to explain her reasons behind everything she did. And it doesn't mean she was right, but I couldn't help feeling a teeny tiny bit sorry for her, which I suppose was the point of 'Fairest'. The part which I felt was the most important though, and I am sorry about the spoiler but It's not overly big, was Queen Channary with little baby Selene. She loved her so much more than I had expected her to, given the other Lunar's we have met.I couldn't help imagining how it would have been for Cinder to have grown up with that, with parental love. Or how it would have been if Channary had looked after her little sister the same way she looked after her daughter.
Anyway, back to the point, it was really interesting to see what made Levana snap, and to watch her crumble and drift further and further away from innocence. I do believe that by the time we meet her in the series she really does think she is doing what is best for her people, for her home.
It was nice to have a bit of background knowledge.
