edit: updated to 2.5/5 from 4/5 after the dumpster fire that was cc3. this book is basically a waste of time after we find out more context in cc3.
this book started off super slow for me, and was also slow in general for the first ~70%. i was considering giving it a 3/5 because it was still enjoyable to learn more of the characters and how they were solving this current mystery, but by no means as exciting or engaging as i felt the first book was.
then i got to the last 30% and omfg. this book picked up very fast from there and the ending shot this up to 4/5 stars for me. so much happened in those last 200-300 pages that just kept getting better and better. the final 50 pages was even more nerve wracking and exciting. the last page before the epilogue also got me very excited for CC3 to come out.
major things are happening and this book is definitely worth sticking it out until the end. i don’t want to say too much and spoil it because it’s such a great cliff hanger to leave, but it made me excited for any other SJM books that come out in the future.
