Jane: A Murder by Maggie Nelson

challenging dark emotional sad fast-paced

4.0

An incredibly moving work. It takes what is sorely missing from many true crime pieces: an examination on girlhood, on growing up, on being jealous of your sister but loving her still. The almost mixed-media approach served the author well. It took family tragedy and gave us a window into loss that isn't our own, though it feels like it now.

"What transpired
for five and
a half hours

between Jane
and her murderer
is a gap so black

it could eat
an entire sun
without leaving

a trace."
