When I first read the blurb of "Electric Souls", it reminded me a little of Justin Cronin's "The Passage" - a girl that needs to be protected because she's special and that one guy who is willing to risk his life to fulfill the duty. But N.G. Méndez book is nothing like Justin Cronin's book. Not even close.

The story follows a girl named Susan who has special powers and accidentally electrocutes one of her neighbours, Chris. After she killed him they share a invisible bond which makes it possible for her to see and talk to Chris like he's a living person. But when her parents give her away to some scientists because they are scared of her, her life is suddenly in danger ...

Let's start by talking about the main characters Susan and Christopher! I liked both of them a lot, maybe Chris even more than Susan because at times she seemed a little immature and very, very naive. She doesn't really have a clue about the world outside because she lived so long in the labs of the scientists but thanks god she has Chris by her side. He's always there for her and as the story continues he's becoming like a father to her. I loved their relationship a lot! Especially Chris grew on me because even though he's dead and has his own problems he set Susan's life over his own and ALWAYS tries to protect her, no matter what. He's an amazing friend, would have been a great and loving father and I'm glad little Sue got him by her side!

There are various side characters we get to know throughtout the book but the most important ones are probably Jim and Eva! Susan met them once she was able to flee out of the labs and had to hide in the "normal" world. When the author introduces Jim to us we also get to know some other important side characters, like Adrian, Jade, Richie, Rose, and and and - they were all lovely, very likeable and like Susan, I instantly felt welcome and home. They were like a family for Sue and therefore you just HAVE to love them!

Jim probably had the greatest impact on me ... and yes, I fell a little in love with him. He's cute, handsome, sweet, loving and caring. He's also brave, strong and always there when you need him. He helps and supports Sue with whatever she needs and their relationship is just really, really cute!

The story itself is interesting and unique since I, for myself, haven't read anything like it before. Although there was one scene that reminded me a lot of the videogame "Beyond Two Souls", which I absolutely loved, but of course I didn't mind! I got to read an ARC/early version of the book, so I knew there were some errors and logistical mistakes in the book but I'm sure the author will still work very hard to complete it and I have no doubt it will become an even more awesome book than it already is!
