A Poem for Peter: The Story of Ezra Jack Keats and the Creation of the Snowy Day by Andrea Davis Pinkney

5.0

Andrea Davis Pinkney has a narrative voice that just bounces right off of the page and bounces back in with the reader under-arm. I really enjoyed her "collage verse" (as she calls it in her back matter) as a compliment and a complement to Ezra Jack Keats's patchwork art style and patchwork life. The illustrations, especially one spread in which Peter's face peeks out as a beautiful brown snowflake swimming in a sea of bluesy snow, matches the beat and bounce of Pinkney's voice and makes a fitting tribute to a great artist and advocate.
