I really enjoyed this book! Before starting, I was a little worried because I had heard that there was a romantic subplot and I didn't want it to detract from the gothic horror aspect, but that didn't happen! This book is really atmospheric (the setting plays a HUGE role) and I thought the general aesthetic worked really well for its genre. The last 100 pages are pretty wild, but that doesn't mean the first part isn't enjoyable; I thought it built up to the end well. Overall, I think this is a worthwhile read for fans of gothic horror.
Graphic: Chronic illness, Death, Emotional abuse, Gore, Terminal illness, Violence, and Murder
Moderate: Incest, Racism, Sexual assault, and Cannibalism
