Saga, Vol. 1 by Brian K. Vaughan

5.0

What an excellent start to a series! I was immediately hooked from the very first chapter. It's a fascinating blend of sci-fi and fantasy, with some crazy aesthetic choices. The plot is fast-paced and manages to weave together the different points of view of each of the three groups wonderfully. When they switch to another group's point of view, I'm never annoyed at that changeover. It's always done in such a way that the flow of the story is perfect. Some of the dialogue made me raise an eyebrow, cause it did come off as trying to be just a smidge too edgy. But that's easily overlooked. This story can get pretty violent with some nasty gore, and there are quite a few sexual moments and several scenes with non-sexual nudity. They don't detract from the story, but can be startling if you go in blind to the story, like I did. I look forward to reading the next volumes!
