Oh goodness this was a trip. I tried, I really did, even finished it to be fair, but every chapter just made me angry and annoyed. The writing style is giving 6 y.o. In a 16 y.o.’s body who doesn’t know how to express himself. Just one random tale after the next and a bunch of “no, that didn’t actually happen.” moments. Found a couple grammar issues as well which to me, are very simple things that could’ve been looked over.

Why is this book 306 pages with 5 chapters? I felt like I was on a never ending ride. Especially because each story was thrown in haphazardly after the next. I contemplated skim reading at one point.

Now these characters…most of them are so unlikeable. Badger making dumb decisions that a 16 y.o. should know better about all for the sake of ego and popularity. His mom being neglectful and allowing him to just do and go as he pleases. His ‘friend group’ of assholes behaving like the cast of Euphoria. It was just too much. Only Aadiyah, Audrey and his grandpa didn’t upset me.

There was no structure, no real character redemption, which really was disappointing. I did a buddy read with this book and my friend didn’t like it either. You can’t connect with a character who only shows himself as a victim with a “woe is me. I just wanna be cool” narrative who couldn’t even spot a blowjob innuendo.
