A Fatal Obsession by Faith Martin
4.0
Format: Audio
I’ve really gotten into a cosy crime audio book while down the yard with my horse, and after reading Murder by Candlelight earlier this month, decided to give Faith Martin’s backlist a try. This series is set in Oxford which is near where I live and so feels familiar, despite being set in the 1960s.
I really liked Trudy as a character and found her internal monologue to be really interesting. I also enjoyed seeing the dynamics between her and coroner Clement Ryder develop. They had a really good chemistry (in a student/mentor kind of way) and I’ll be interested to see how it continues to develop.
The mystery didn’t follow the direction I thought it would and I’m really glad the author didn’t just do the obvious – there was some complexity to the case although there were enough clues to give the reader a chance to solve it. I’m looking forward to seeing what comes next for Trudy and Clement – I think I may have a new audiobook series for when I am down the yard!
