I was so excited to read this book. The first book was probably one of my top reads of last year, and I knew that this one wouldn't disappoint. The atmosphere throughout the novel is maintained just as it had been in the first, with all the Gothic elements and horror.

I was a little hesitant at first, as I am not usually a fan of books that switch point of view. I find that some authors use this as a crutch when they do not have enough to say or do with a specific character. This was not the case. The point of view switches throughout this book were a fantastic way to learn more about Ravyn and Elm's characters.

Elm ended up being probably one of my favorite characters in the series. In the first book I fell in love with Ravyn and Elspeth's relationship and honestly considered it pretty hard to top. Throughout that first book there were small moments between Elm and
Ion
, but I thought nothing of it.

But let me tell you, they had plenty of chemistry, and I fell in love with them. I was so excited to get to the parts of the book that talked about the journey that they were going on.

The Nightmare it was another character that I did not consider falling in love with. This book did a fantastic job at exploring his past through Elspeth's eyes. He almost ended up being a father figure for her, and I loved it. This whole series was a redemption arc for him, and how he treated his family before he died.

The ending itself was OK for me. I do wish we were able to see a little bit more of the characters after we had just gone through this ginormous journey with them. It would've been nice to have one or two more chapters to explore how the world was now.

In the end, I do consider this one of my favorite series today. I am super excited for anything Rachel releases in the future. She is going to be one of the authors that I buy without thinking about it.

She has some big shoes to fill.
