The Hotel Between by Sean Easley

mysterious

3.0

I’m really disappointed that this wasn’t mainly about the traveling to other parts of the world aspect. I feel like most of the time was spent inside the hotel… but it’s about a hotel with doors to other places so I thought it would focus on that a lot but it doesn’t? I don’t think it was wrong for me to expect that and I’m just really disappointed. I also don’t like how every middle grade book needs to have an adult that’s out to get the kid. Like really why is it in every middle grade book. I don’t like to leave bad reviews but the cover literally portrays different parts of the world on it so I thought it would focus on going to other places for more than just a few pages each. Why would you market it that way when really the main plot is about the main character trying to get his dad back. I know it says that in the description but that is most of the plot. It’s all the main character thinks about, that and worrying about his other family. The whole book is just him worrying and barely finding out anything so it’s just kind of repetitive with his thoughts throughout the whole thing. I think middle grade is just not for me because I don’t enjoy them as much. The cover and concept just seemed so cool. I really do think there should have been more time spent going to cool places. The cover makes it seem like it’s a fun adventure travel book but it’s really not. They spend most of the time inside of the hotel rather than visiting fun places and having a good time. The best part is the ending, it’s really nice and I enjoyed the room full of cats. It makes me want to read the next book because it seems like it might be filled with more traveling and nice fun adventures
