Mapping the Bones by Jane Yolen
5.0
“If God is watching, He is weeping. If He is not, He is dead.”
TW: The Holocaust; Child abuse; Death; War
Chaim and Gittel are Jewish twins trying to survive in 1942 Poland. The author made the story feel. She put us there with those victims, and we were living their nightmare with them. I had to check multiple times to see if this book was fiction or nonfiction because of how well the author put together the story. The only thing I didn't like was the realness of it all, and the fact that this very easily could have been a story told from true survivors, because the events that took place did happen to so many innocent people.
