I'm Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy

5.0

First of all wow! The guts and strength it must have taken to write this memoir is remarkable. This has been on my TBR for awhile and I kept putting it off. The title bothered me I didn’t even like typing it out or saying it so I kept pushing it off and pushing it off. After watching the Nickelodeon documentary I knew I had to finally read this and I’m so glad that I did.

Listening to it on audio to actually hear the author think back and tell her life’s story made the experience of reading so much better. #jenettemccurdy used her voice to tell her story of life after trauma and the ins and outs of recovery.

My biggest take away from this book was resilience and the fact that people who were awful in life should not be romanticized when they are dead. People are who they are and unfortunately many of us try to make them something they were not in death. Calling it out for what it is and learning how to accept and grow from it is something many people aren’t able to do but Jenette McCurdy explains and delivers it gracefully , real , and raw.

If you are like me and putting this off I highly suggest you bump it up on your TBR and give it a read or a listen you will not be disappointed!
