The Complete Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi

5.0

I first came across Persepolis as a film as part of my AS-Level French studies and fell totally in love with it. Finally reading the graphic novel was also a great experience.

Persepolis is Satrapi's memoir of her life in and outside of Iran in the aftermath of the Islamic revolution, living with activist parents. It is both fascinating in its depiction of a really important period of history and also incredibly moving in dealing with Satrapi's issues around her personal, religious and political identity.

I just really, really recommend this. The graphic novel format is easy to read, and Satrapi's illustrations are really effective.
