Five Survive by Holly Jackson
fast-paced
3.5
This was my first read by Holly Jackson and since everyone seems to enjoy her books a lot I had high expectations. And well, I'm not sure if she fulfilled them because I'm still very torn on how many stars I should give this... hmm.
It's not what I usually read but the blurb really intrigued me and I was super excited to get into the story! What I liked about it was that reading it felt like watching a movie - I had all the scenes in my head and could picture everything very well.
I had some trouble getting into it at first though, at times it was also a bit boring and I had no real connection to our MC Red or even anyone else of the characters. I think they were okay and I "liked" them but I didn't really care much. 🤷
They were all different though and I liked their dynamic and seeing how each character reacted differently in certain situations. Also, I just have to mention it here somewhere: I freaking hate Oliver. What a disgusting person, honestly. 🤬
Some things were a little predictable but others I didn't even think of! Overall it was fast-paced and towards the ending I really couldn't put the book down thanks to the cliffhangers at the end of chapters.
The ending was... well idk? I kind of liked it (especially the letter!) but also I'm a little meh? I probably won't be thinking about it for long because I just didn't care as much. Still it was a good book and I flew through it super quickly, it was easy to read and overall enjoyable!
