My feelings on this book are very mixed. While creative and touching in its depiction of childhood abuse, the third act felt incredibly bloated and managed to waste all the tension that we’d been building up to. The body horror, emotional horror, and supernatural horror were all fighting for attention, creating a story less fully realised than its sister novel: Dolores Claiborne.
