Ink by Alice Broadway
4.0
In Leora's world you're marked at birth, and again with every milestone and achievement thereafter. There are tattoos to signify age, loved ones, where you work; everything that makes you who you are is on display for the world to see. And when you die your story is passed on in the form of a skin book, carefully removed and preserved for generations to read and remember you by. But when Leora's father dies right as she comes of age she quickly learns that there is a lot more to a person than the ink on their skin and that tattoos can hide as much as they reveal.
This was such a cool world to spend some time in. A little bit dystopian and a little bit fairytale, the author has created a really unique yet plausible society that I loved reading about but would hate living in. I really enjoyed how she took recognizable fairytales and mythologies and reshaped them to become the history and lore of Saintstone. I particularly enjoyed the reimagination of the Osiris Myth. Such a cool idea! I am really looking forward to continuing with the series. I hope the other books are as strong as this one.
