When Haru Was Here by Dustin Thao
3.0
2.5. This is one of those books that feels designed around the twist. Like that came first and everything else was built out around it to make that work, even if some of the justifications are a little wobbly. For me, the whole thing with Haru just.... didn't really pass muster. Some people are really going to love this because it's well-written and the characters feel real but this one just isn't for me; it's not the way I like to be told a story and it's a very fragile house of cards, if you poke at any of it, it's going to collapse.
