The New Climate War: The Fight to Take Back Our Planet by Michael E. Mann

3.0

I was considering whether to give this book 3 or 4 stars but settled for 3 because I think I would only recommend this book in specific cases. This is a book about climate "inactivists" as Mann calls them: people that have their own reasons to stop or slow down progress regarding climate change. He discusses denialism, delaying tactics, the influence of big oil, deflection campaigns, and much more in that area. If that speaks to you, you will find this book interesting.

Even though I liked the book, I had not expected it to be this America-focused, which might have been my mistake. I felt like I had to struggle through endless anecdotes about writers, journalists, and politicians I don't know to come to the next interesting observation about disinformation campaigns in the modern world. Overall, I think over half of this book consisted of very detailed stories about the parts that (famous) American individuals played in the disinformation campaigns. This book could have been half as long and still gotten the point across.
