The Horrific Crimes of Gilles de Rais Revisited: Life of a Serial Killer of the Middle Ages by Jack Smith
dark
informative
medium-paced
My expectations for this book quickly dwindled when, on the copyright page, there was a disclaimer that "the author and the publisher do not warrant the accuracy of the information... contained within the book." And then they went on to cite Blogspot sites, so.......
What this book did do successful was to lay out a fairly succinct list of the accusations and charges brought against de Rais and the ultimate outcome of his trial, as well as the generally accepted stances on his guilt post the 1992 retrial.
While a decent overview, nowhere near as deep as I like to dive into my subjects of nonfiction, and overly graphic in its zeal to list out a number of other historical high body count serial killers. Will be keeping until I have a more satisfactorily rigorous book (or books) on the subject.
