"Daughter of Smoke and Bone" is everything that I wrote above and more. Words elude me when it comes to describing just how beautiful, fascinating, unique and intricate Laini Taylor's writing is. I think I will read anything that she writes and it will never disappoint me because this book filled my heart and then broke it into a million pieces. The author pulled familiar tropes of forbidden love and good vs evil but weaved the entire tale so convincingly that I was in the thrall of this magical story from beginning to that cliffhanger of an ending.

I love Karou and Akiva so, so much, they are so precious and I can't wait to read the rest of this trilogy.
