Fated mates, vampire alien monster romance. Need I say more? This is book one of the Brides of Kyloraseries and BOY what a start it is! A true enemies-to-lovers, slow burn with yearning, some groveling, tons of “my wife,” spicy spice. Honestly, this is a great distraction book with tense vibes early on, and cozy vibes throughout the middle. It does have emotional parts, but it’s a charming “hate-that-I-love-you” love story for the most part. And that world building!! Holy smokes, what an imaginative narrative! It didn’t get too SciFi, it was a great balance of futuristic tech and old-world charm. Not too complicating, but still very interesting. Definitely don’t go into this wanting Star Wars vibes, but you do get glimpses of spaceships and hologram-like tech, so it’s still really fun. The only thing that knocks down points for me would be that my copy contained some grammatical errors, but it wasn’t too bad. All in all, the setting was awesome, the characters are definitely lovable (even the mean sister grew on me lol). Side note, there’s something to say about a hot alien vampire that hates the FMC’s guts, but can’t keep his hands off her, and that something is: HOT DAMN! 👀
Some tropes I noticed:
- Fated Mates
- Enemies-to-lovers
- Vampire alien & human
- 30 yr old FMC
- Older sister sacrificing herself for family
- She falls first, he falls harder
- Protective touch-her-and-die MMC
- Needs her blood to be stronger
- Lots of blood!
- Futuristic vibes mixed with a Gothic or Medieval castle/keep setting
- Ends in HEA
Graphic: Sexual content
Moderate: Cursing and Blood
Minor: Violence, Grief, Death of parent, Murder, and War
This is mostly a monster romance that does not go too deep into difficult subjects. However, there are mentions of war, violence, death of loved ones etc. The MMC is full of hate and grief early on, but he warms up. Also, this is a spicy read with sexual content, and what I think is technically blood play? If easily scandalized, I suggest finding the content warnings online!
