I chose this book because it was a little outside my usual taste in books and I was curious (I heard great things about it). I liked it, but ultimately it felt too undecided in genre. Like it was a historical fiction romance but then were was this element of fantasy that felt like it was trying to be gothic horror and I don’t think it all worked. Also, I very much wanted to know about the origins of the vampires and I know that wasn’t the point of this type of story, but maybe that just further serves the idea that this book wasn’t for me anyway.
