Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay, and a Mother's Will to Survive by Stephanie Land

my first ever memoir and it did not disappoint at all! i enjoyed the fact this non-fiction book didn’t totally feel like non-fiction.

it has got to be the most depressing and heartbreaking book i’ve ever read, and the way stephanie land described her life was genuinely raw and emotional (i usually don’t believe what they say on the back of a book). i’m glad it ended the way it ended though and didn’t leave me a depressed mess.

what i never quite understood was why stephanie decided to move in with travis when she actually had a good apartment (of course, there’s love, but she didn’t seem very much in love with him from the beginning imo), or — more importantly — why she didn’t try to get a home through the TBRA program again.

either way, land’s memoir made me feel a little more hopeful, that things can truly work out for everyone even if your current situation seems so forlorn. and i’m truly happy for how it turned out for stephanie and mia.
