Ascender, Vol. 1: The Haunted Galaxy by Jeff Lemire

4.0

Set about a decade after the events of Descender a seismic shift has reshaped the powers in the galaxy, with technology hunted nearly to extinction by the magic-wielding Mother and her adherents. The new child protagonist is Mila, Andy's daughter, the two living like hermits on a planet called Samson. For me Dustin Nguyen's art was always the star of the series, and that trend continues. I'm not sure I buy the dramatic shift in premise in such a short window but Jeff Lemire's plotting does enough to keep the interest going, and the ending is a great cliff-hanger. Looking forward to Volume 2.
