Wicked as You Wish by Rin Chupeco
3.0
*More like a 3.5 stars*
Wicked As You Wish by Rin Chupeco is the beginning of the series "A Hundred Names for Magic". It incorporates a lot of fantasy lands that are popular in fairy tales and other stories with the real world. Tala, a 17 year old girl with the ability to repel magic, and her family are keeping the exiled prince of Avalon safe from the Snow Queen. But it doesn't take long for things to get dangerous, and get turned upside down.
Since the release for this book is 2020, I will do a short review that gives no spoilers. I don't want to give anything important away.
I really liked the concept of the story, especially incorporating the real world with mythical and fantastical worlds, such as Wonderland and Avalon. There was a lot of diversity which I also appreciate in a story, since it's more true to real life. The characters were pretty witty and there was a lot of action which always helps move a story along.
The main problem I had with the story was some of the characters actions didn't make sense to me. Alex, the exiled prince, has really strange outbursts and his entire personality seemed to change from how he was at the beginning of the story. I ended up not liking his character at all. I think if his attitude change had been more subtle, it would have been better for me.
I will be really interested to see where the story goes, especially with what happened at the end. I think for me too, if a book takes me a long time to read for whatever reason, I always seem to not enjoy it as much as a story I finish in a relatively timely manner. Which might be a selfish type of rating, but there were enough things in this story that left me a little off-put to give it any higher of a rating.
