In my journey through the series that began with "One of Us is Lying," I found myself diving into the sequel "One of Us is Next," straight after. While initially hesitant to continue after the first installment, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the writing remained consistently engaging.

One of the perks of reading a series is the opportunity to get to know the characters more intimately and develop a genuine attachment to them. Characters like Cooper, who was endearing in the first book, continued to shine, and Addy proved to be a standout character. The story does shifts its primary focus to the younger generation, particularly Bronwyn's sister, Mauve, Phoebe, her siblings Owen and Emma, her friend Jules, and the return of some familiar faces from the earlier book that was a pleasant surprise to see back.

Ultimately, I found the characters and the emotions they evoked to be the highlight of this book. While it may not be a story I'd personally revisit aside from the third installment that I've already bought, it serves its purpose effectively as a tween mystery thriller and for a fan of YA or school-central mysteries it is a very well-written and well-executed series so far.
