King of Greed by Ana Huang
3.0
3 - ⭐️⭐️⭐️
“I’m past romantic, Alessandra. I’m desperate.”
I did have a good time with King of Greed, married couple x second chance happens to be one of my favorite tropes especially when it includes a lot of groveling.
However, in a way it felt lacking.
In the first half I was excited to see how the longing and angst between Alessandra and Dominic's would come to fruition but needless to say it was underwhelming in the second half.
There were scenes that had my heart strings tugging but there could've been more.
I don't blame Alessandra for being frustrated (and I don't find her annoying), imagine tolerating and negligent husband and the moment you call it quits he suddenly cares? Not that Dominic isn't in love with Ále but work was the mistress who had all of his attention and time.
I think I just wanted a proper and more believable build up for their second chance. I got some grovelling but I wanted MORE. I wanted Dominic to do more than just show up and haunt Alessandra. I wanted more effort that was not just materialistic.
Even the spice sometimes lacked the intimacy and the emotions that I think was much needed for this couple in particular. Do I dare say it was less spicy than Ana's other books in comparison? Yes I will.
I did have a good time because I blocked out what bothered me while reading, but reflecting on the story as a whole I think it could've been better and more romantic.
content warnings: includes graphic adult content, spouse negligence, violence, brief mentions of childhood abandonement.
