A House With Good Bones by T. Kingfisher
4.0
All the single men my age want either a trophy wife or a housekeeper, and I’m not doing either.
There is something in Kingfisher's prose and the way she narrates the story that makes me want to root for her protagonists. Her female leads are just feel... real. Full of personalities and snarks and often they use comedies or sarcasm as a coping mechanism in a terrifying situations, and I'm totally sold to that. Because when you are a regular person living a regular life and then suddenly you have to battle against haunting ghosts or a magically-crafted creatures, won't you feel silly?
This book is also full of tidbits information about insects and roses, and both are something I can appreciate. I still don't like insects or arachnids or antropods or whatever, but it doesn't mean that I don't wanna know about them.
A solid four stars for me.
The only let down was when Samantha goes down the rabbit hole of internet search and pull up a bunch of articles that I, as a reader, couldn't feel as invested as she does about it and it makes the story slows down to a drag. Thank god it picks up again and finishes off properly.
