Nova by Samuel R. Delany
5.0
It's like Moby Dick and War and Peace had a baby in space who was obsessed with tarot rather than outlining a hypothetical encyclopedia of whales. I love how Delany's more mature early plots — Nova and Einstein as opposed to Jewels or Babel — leave me satisfied without ever fully showing their hand (in this case, despite an in-depth card reading). I could study the mythic and mystic resonances running through this novel for months, and a large part of me wants to reread the whole thing immediately to see what else I can get out of it. 10/10 obsession, revenge, philosophy of history, music writing, and metafiction.
