When it comes to suspense, thriller, or mystery novels, I prefer going in blind—I often avoid reading the synopsis or even knowing the basic plot. All I knew about The Last Mrs. Parrish was that it had received a lot of positive buzz. That was enough for me to pick it up.

However, this book was not for me. There are certain themes in books that I find difficult to handle, and this story touched on some of them. I won’t mention specifics here in case you’d also prefer to go in blind, but if you’re curious, I recommend looking up the content warnings.

I found myself frustrated with the characters and deeply uncomfortable with some of the topics explored in the book. At one point, I almost put it down for good. The only thing that kept me going was my curiosity—I needed to know how it ended. And in that sense, I’m glad I stuck it out because the conclusion brought me some closure.

Overall, The Last Mrs. Parrish seems to be a polarizing read, one you’ll likely either love or hate. Unfortunately, I fell into the latter camp.
