My first finished read of the #TransRightsReadathon!

Transmuted follows Isa, a successful trans streamer who crowd funds enough money for FFS (facial feminization surgery). But when she is forced to give up the money to pay for treatment of her dying father, Isa responds to an Instagram ad promising a full body transformation. After a terrifying first treatment, Isa is blown away by the results…except they don’t stop and she keeps changing beyond her control…

This was incredibly good. The story is so unique while also highlighting the very real and frightening reality of the societal pressures and dangers that trans folks have to face every single day. Harms’ prose is strong and her writing is poetic. I found myself laughing out loud, reading with my jaw on the floor & squirming. How this novella doesn’t have more attention is truly beyond me. Isa’s undoubtedly bizarre and truly unimaginable story will live rent free in my head and I’m happy about it.
