Lady Tan is a doctor, mother, friend, investigator, and overall amazing woman. Lisa See’s research really taught me a lot about China during the 15th century, but also about the amazing individual she based her novel upon. I wish there was more information about Lady Tan.

Lisa See’s emphasis on the importance and love between female friends is always heartwarming, and this book was no exception.

The intrigue at the end made it interesting to the last page.
